| Recognizing the importance of industries related to electricity and electronics as well as the growth of an information society, the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering (ISEE) was established in 1996 to promote education and research in this new, rapidly evolving field. ISEE seeks to educate and train students in new approaches and methodologies, and thus enable them to contribute to the innovation and development of new technologies and applications.
Several related subjects, thus far pursued independently within the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, and the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences were integrated to launch the Graduate School of ISEE. Shortly speaking, ISEE is a coupled ring of i (information science) and e (electrical engineering). The principal subjects covered at our school include Informatics, Computer Science and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Electronics, and Cognitive Science and Knowledge Engineering. The academic aim of the School is to establish Information Science as a systematic approach to information-related issues, with support from the fields of science, engineering, and psychology. It also seeks to promote the integration of Information Science and disciplines concerned with electric and electronic technologies. The Graduate School of ISEE consists of five departments: Most of the staff in the school of ISEE participate in the education of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) which is the 4-year undergraduate school. |
