Q1 Why did you choose your subject, major, and Kyushu University?
After I was awarded a scholarship for Ph.D. studies, I contacted friends who studied abroad to find the best university and I compared them. I decided on Kyushu University because it has a great educational program, good teaching facilities, beautiful environment, and good academic achievement.

Q2 What do you research?
My research subject is about the design of low power and low noise wideband front end transceiver.
My research subject is very interesting because we suggest a new design, make simulations and design, and send it for fabrication. Finally we test the real device and make actual measurements.

Q3 How do you like Japan, Kyushu or Fukuoka?
Fukuoka city is a good place for living and study. Many facilities are available (restaurants , Halal food, good transportation) as well as natural environment, fantastic festivals, many beaches, and big shopping centers or stores.

Q4 Please advise something to younger students who come to Kyushu University.
First of all, I recommend new students to learn Japanese language to be more involved with the Japanese culture and attend regular seminars and meetings with older students to exchange experiences and information.

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Native country: Republic of Korea

Q1 Why did you choose your subject, major, and Kyushu University?
When I was in high school, I was interested in electronic fields and wanted to study about it in university. I also desired to study the most advanced techniques at the best place possible. Japan is the world-leading country in this field. So, I decided to come to Japan to study aboard. Kyushu University is located in a nice place, and has a good curriculum and research environment.

Q2 What do you research?
I am currently doing research about the formation of the semiconductor substrates. It is basic and important research in the development of semiconductor devices. Both South Korea and Japan are influential countries with the development and production of electronic components and devices in the world. In the future, I hope to be able to contribute to technological development and economic growth of both countries.

Q3 How do you like Japan, Kyushu, or Fukuoka?
The thing I like most in Japan is the kind nature of the people. Especially in Fukuoka city, I think people are really kind and nice, compared to other cities in Japan. You can always find someone to ask help from if you are in trouble. People here often go to extreme lengths to help foreigners even if they don`t speak their language. Classmates who I met are also so nice, and never hesitate to help me when I can not follow the class. So I could easily adapt to lectures the first time I came to Japan. I am sure you will be able to have a great chance to meet very nice people and make friends here.

Q4 Please advise something to younger students who come to Kyushu University.
In high school you need to make some very important choices in your life. To make the right choices, you should have some vision of your life and make plans for the future. Take some time to think about what you like and what you want to do in the future. There is an old saying that `The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams`. I hope you can find out what your real dreams are. Kyushu University will provide the best opportunity to make your dreams come true. Hope to see you on campus.

Department of Computer Science and Communication Engineering, Information security
Native country: China

Q1 Why did you choose your subject, major, and Kyushu University?
I first majored in Electronic & Information Engineering (EE). I always had a strong interest in security and planned on doing more research on it after getting my master’s degree so I applied for a PhD program in network security. Japan is advanced in Computer Science (CS) and Sakurai-sensei Lab is really fascinating on security.

Q2 What do you research?
I majored in information engineering and I am interested in security. I came to Sakurai-Lab, which researches information technology and security. I plan on becoming a university network lecturer or even a professor. I hope I can make more students understand this research topic and become interested in it.

Q3 How do you like Japan, Kyushu, or Fukuoka?
Fukuoka is humid like my hometown which makes me feel familiarity. I like the blue and clear sky. Transportation is convenient throughout the whole country. The most important thing is that Kyushu is near Shanghai, China. It causes less homesickness.
When I first came to Japan, my stomach always felt empty. My friend told me that it could be due to the differences in type of food. Japanese food is served in small portions and not as oily as Chinese food. At McDonalds, one hamburger is half the size of a hamburger in China. ^__^

Q4 Please advise something to younger students who come to Kyushu University.
Study hard and enjoy life.
Enjoy the different cultures, scenery, food, and language. Make new friends with Japanese students and students from other countries. It is important to make time to study.
